Roomasa Channa

Roomasa Channa, MD

Dr. Roomasa Channa, vitreoretinal surgeon and retina researcher, joined the department as an assistant professor in September of 2020. Dr. Channa was previously affiliated with the Baylor College of Medicine and Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, Texas, where she held an assistant professor appointment.

She obtained her bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery degrees at the Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan. She completed a pre-residency research fellowship in retina and uveitis at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University, as well as a one-year internal medicine internship at the St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Channa then returned to the Wilmer Eye Institute to complete her specialty training as an ophthalmology resident and vitreoretinal surgical fellow.

Freya Mowat

Freya Mowat, BVSc, PhD

Dr. Freya Mowat joined the department as an assistant professor in January 2020. She provides diagnostic and therapeutic care to patients of UW Veterinary Care’s Ophthalmology Service, while also instructing veterinary students and interns during their clinical rotations in ophthalmology. Her research encompasses aspects of retinal degeneration, with a particular focus on aging, hereditary disorders, and the underlying causes and treatment of canine blindness.

Dr. Mowat studied Veterinary Medicine at the University of Bristol, and gained her PhD in Molecular Genetics from University College London (Institute of Ophthalmology). She finished a Comparative Ophthalmology residency at Michigan State University in 2015, and was an Assistant Professor at North Carolina State University from 2015-2019.

Travis Rumery

Travis Rumery, DO

Dr. Travis Rumery joined the department’s comprehensive ophthalmology service team in October of 2020 as an assistant professor. Dr. Rumery specializes in cataract surgery and comprehensive ophthalmology.

Dr. Rumery earned his osteopathic medical degree at the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines, Iowa. He spent his internship year at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. Dr. Rumery completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and finished his training with a cornea, external disease and refractive surgery fellowship here at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. He spent six years in practice with SSM Health Davis Duehr Dean Eye Care before joining UW.

Dr. Rumery sees patients at the UW Health Deming Way Eye Clinic. He also provides eye care to communities north of Madison at the Mile Bluff Medical Clinic in Mauston, Wisconsin.

Kathleen Schildroth

Kathleen Schildroth, MD

Dr. Kathleen Schildroth, joined our faculty and retina service in August of 2020.

Dr. Schildroth earned her medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University Sidney Kimmel Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Schildroth then completed her internship and ophthalmology residency at University of Florida Health in Gainesville, Florida, and finished her training with the vitreoretinal surgery fellowship here with UW DOVS.

Dr. Schildroth practices at UW Health University Station Eye Clinic, as well as regionally in Rockford and Freeport, Illinois.
